There are two main types of veins that people refer to and try to manage when they present at our office: varicose veins and spider veins.
Varicose veins are large, highly visible veins that can be unsightly and even painful for some people. They are caused by a number of factors including heredity, occupational hazards such as standing on your feet all day, pregnancy, puberty, medication use such as birth control, and more. They are difficult to treat sometimes, but advancements in laser technology make it easy to control the look and appearance of veins and can help reduce the likelihood of recurrence in some clients. Varicose veins develop when blood vessels become weak, and blood starts to pool in areas of the veins causing them to stick out. They are most common in the leg veins and may appear red, purple, or blue.
Spider veins are smaller in size and generally impact various parts of the body. These often appear on the face, hands, and feet over time. They are common signs of aging, but they can also be caused by injury, illness, surgery scars, sun exposure, medications and more. They are broken capillaries that can be treated to reduce the look and visibility of them. Some people will develop spider veins on their nose, cheeks, chin, and more. Laser light is an effective way to reduce the look and recurrence of spider veins. This type of skin condition is called spider veins because the veins are often deep purple or dark blue and look like spiders.
When it comes to treating varicose veins, surgery may be required, but as the first point of contact, laser therapy is often a good starting point. The laser therapy can be used to stimulate the blood flow and improve circulation to the area of the body most affected by the varicose veins. If the veins are just starting to form, there is a chance that we can stop the continued development of a larger vein being seen through the skin.
Treating spider veins is a relatively simple process, but because they often appear near the eye area of the body, we ensure that special eye protection is worn to protect your eyes from damage. The treatment process lasts only a few minutes in each area of the body that is affected, and clients can expect to see results in a short period of time following the initial treatment. Spider vein therapy works by “zapping” the veins and closing off the broken capillaries so that they don’t continue to “leak” into the skin.
Both treatment options are highly recommended and easy to perform. When you arrive at our office in Studio City, we’ll review the treatment options with you and discuss future prevention methods that can help maintain the results you achieve and stop them from happening again.
Although we are using lasers, the risks to the client are minimal. These lasers are of the highest quality and are designed for medical use. They work to target specific areas of the body to increase collagen production or stimulate other cells to improve the look and feel of skin. When dealing with veins, there is no real risk to the client except they might experience some slight discomfort from pressing the laser on to the skin’s surface, some redness might occur, or some swelling may occur. However, the benefits of laser therapy are far more effective than the mild side effects one might experience.
